TTD 2025 JUNE 12TH MESSAGE.

Fellow Nigerians, Fellow Democrats
As we mark another June 12th—Democracy Day—we do so with a mix of reflection, sorrow, and resolve.

Let us take a moment of silence for our fellow citizens—brothers and sisters—whose lives were cut short unjustly. Their only "offense" was being Nigerian. We remember them with heavy hearts and solemn honor.

Tragically, successive governments have often looked the other way, failing to address the root causes of violence and injustice. The silence in the face of these tragedies is deafening. It begs the question: What are we truly celebrating when the spirit and promise of democracy remain elusive for many?

June 12th should not be a ceremonial date. It should be a reminder of the people's will, the sacrifices of our heroes past, and the collective dream of a nation built on justice, equity, and freedom.

Today, we call on our government to recommit to the protection of life and property, to reassess its priorities, and to address the systemic failures that have allowed impunity to thrive. If we do not act now, the consequences may be more devastating than we can imagine.

Democracy, oh democracy—why have we strayed so far from your noble path?
We have not honored the legacy of those who fought and died for this nation.
We have allowed personal greed to overshadow public service.

Let us be clear: We have failed democracy—not the other way around.

We ask:
What is the purpose of hoarding ill-gotten wealth when fathers cannot feed their children?
What legacy do we leave behind when the very institutions meant to serve the people are weakened by corruption and self-interest?

Democracy without accountability, the rule of law, and the protection of civil liberties is merely dictatorship under another name.

What we should be celebrating is true democracy—where the people’s voice matters, where leaders serve with humility, and where no Nigerian is left behind.

Democracy must guarantee us security, freedom, and peace.

The task before us is great, but it is not impossible. We must build a nation where tribe, religion, class, or privilege does not define one's worth or access to justice. We must invest in people—through education, healthcare, technology, and infrastructure.

We must reject the celebration of incompetent democracy and rise to demand one that truly serves the people.

Let June 12th be more than a date. Let it be a call to action. A rebirth of our national conscience.

Together, we can still build the Nigeria of our dreams.

Long live democracy. Long live Nigeria.
